Foxes Riding School is a British Horse Society and Association of British Riding Schools approved establishment, and an approved location for National Vocational Qualifications.

In conjunction with City College Manchester, we can offer courses for the following professional qualifications, for people who wish to work within the industry.

Horse Care NVQ Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3

Entry requirements
Students must be minimum of 16 years old and are expected to have an acceptable level of literacy and numeracy, commensurate with the course level

Course details
Level 1 - Assist with routine care, handle horses from the ground, prepare horses for use under supervision & liaise with others
Level 2 - Provide routine care, determine health and condition of horse, work with horse from the ground, assist in transportation of horses, ride horses.
Level 3 - Mandatory units are as follows:

Plan and monitor routine care
Promote/maintain the well being of the horse
Prepare horses for use
Transportation of the horse

Duration
Full time -16 hours a week for 30 weeks

Assessment
Continual assessment of practical work, portfolio building and theory questioning

Qualification
NVQ Horse Care Level 1, 2 or 3

Start Date
September

Prospective students will be interviewed prior to starting any of the above courses. If your are aged 16-18 and following this course as a full time student, your programme will include tutorials, enrichment activities and the development of key skills. You will be expected to attend all these sessions as part of the programme.

BHS Stages I, 2 & 3 courses can be run alongside the above NVQ levels, as well as preliminary and intermediate teaching.
